Two and a half months of public submissions have yielded 1500+ pictures, posters, collections and written submissions spanning 30 years of Winnipeg's vibrant youth and music culture. On Friday November 5th, 2010, Call / Response will be hosting an event @ The Royal Albert Arms displaying the TOP FIVE submitted photographs for the public to vote for the potential cover.
Winnipeg's SubCity, High Five Drive, The Bokononists, Quagmire will be playing in support of the book. Doors open at 9pm.
November 5th - 30th you will be able to vote online at www.callresponsebook.com and you will be able to go to Into the Music to vote and check out the potential book covers. We have received great photos from Cam Nikkel, Joey Senft, David Seburn, John Campbell, Caitlin Schlamb, Ailsa Dyson, Doug Humiski and a host of other great photographers. We've received written submissions telling stories dating back to the early eighties, as well as, great first hand accounts of 'first show experiences' and influential moments that have shaped the Winnipeg music scene. This book is about you, written by you.
This project is currently seeking support from local businesses and individuals. We are counting on YOU to pre-order your copy of the book and we are accepting all levels of sponsorship but suggest increments of $100, $250, $500 and $1000 to help with our goal. All sponsors / financial contributors will have their name and logo printed on a dedicated page with size determined by sponsorship level. The project’s goal is to raise money for Kids Help Phone while increasing awareness for issues facing youth. The book is available for a pre-sale price of $25.00 via paypal at www.callresponsebook.com ; a minimum of $10 from each sale will be donated to Kids Help Phone.
Youth have fueled Winnipeg’s music scene. Call/Response will tell this story in a sixty plus page, 12" x 12" large format book made of photographs, collages, writing, and memorabilia.
